The 3 Ds: your small business branding process in 3 simple steps

What’s the process of building your brand with me?

Setting up a new business, or even rebranding an existing one, can seem like a daunting process. I like to keep things simple, so I’ve come up with the three Ds…

Discover, Devise, Design

Step 1: Discover

The research phase

First, we will assess your current position when it comes to branding.

Do you already have a logo or brand? Are you brand spanking new and have a blank canvas?

Then, we'll look at your ideal client or customer. This is the most important part of the research phase of branding. All design decisions will come back to what we outline here.

Before we build your brand, we need to know where you want to be. What is the end goal? Knowing where you're headed with your business will help guide the brand development, including its longevity and scalability.

Step 2: Devise

Initial concepts

Once we've identified who you're aiming to attract, and where you are headed, we can start to build ideas.

This usually begins in the form of a moodboard. I will usually ask if you have compiled any inspiration already. If you have, this will help focus my process, but if not, don't worry — our research will point me in the right direction.

The moodboard will demonstrate the style of typography and imagery, the colours, and the overall vibe we're aiming for.

Step 3: Design

Building your brand

Once our moodboard is approved, I'll begin work on your branding, providing 1-3 concepts for your review.

Once you've chosen the route, you'll have 2 rounds of revisions included to finalise the branding.

As soon as you've approved your brand, I'll send over a full package of logos — all variations and colourways in a range of file types for various applications.

Bonus step 4: Launch & enjoy!
